RedTeam Celebrates Women in Construction Week

Breaking Barriers and Building Futures

To kick off Women in Construction Week, RedTeam hosted an insightful webinar featuring a powerhouse panel of women leaders in the construction industry. The discussion highlighted the challenges, achievements, and evolving role of women in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Our panelists included:
Terry Egley – President of Integrity Construction Group
Randi Barnett – Vice President of Integrity Construction Group
Traci VanDalsem – Vice President of RedTeam Go

Overcoming Challenges as Women in Construction

The conversation shed light on the unique hurdles women face in construction. From overcoming biases on job sites to proving their expertise in the field, Terry and Randi shared firsthand experiences of resilience. “There’s an assumption that a woman walking onto a job site may not know what she’s doing,” Terry noted. However, confidence, knowledge, and perseverance have helped them gain respect and credibility.

Randi added that earning respect as a young professional—especially as a daughter of the company’s president—meant proving herself independently. “At first, I didn’t mention that Terry was my mom because I wanted to establish myself without assumptions.”

The Power of Mentorship & Networking

One of the key takeaways from the discussion was the importance of mentorship and networking. Both Terry and Randi emphasized surrounding themselves with knowledgeable professionals and not being afraid to ask questions. They also actively give back by speaking at schools and mentoring young women considering careers in construction.

Traci reinforced this point, sharing how industry organizations such as NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction) and local Chamber of Commerce events provide valuable networking opportunities.

Balancing Work and Family in the Industry

A major theme of the discussion was work-life balance. With Randi juggling motherhood and leadership, she highlighted the need for setting boundaries, stating, “My clients know that I have young children and that I’m a mom first.” Integrity Construction Group embraces flexibility, allowing employees to bring their children to the office when needed.

Terry reflected on how she started in the industry as a young mother, bringing her infant daughter to work while building her career. Now, she leads a successful company that values family-first policies.

The Role of Technology in Construction

The panel also explored how technology has transformed the industry. From cloud-based project management software like RedTeam to laser measurement tools and AI-driven safety monitoring, the construction world is becoming more efficient. “When I started, we were working with typewriters and fax machines—now everything is digital, making processes smoother and more organized,” Terry shared.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Women in Construction

As more women enter the field, the panelists see a shift in the industry’s landscape. They predict an increase in women-owned trade businesses and more procurement opportunities specifically for women. Traci noted that mentorship and visibility will be crucial in encouraging the next generation to pursue construction careers.
